Dear Special Olympics

Dear Special Olympics,

I am a mentally challenged person who right now is very angry with your policies.  I am very disappointed that you chose to have the games in China of all places.  You claim you care about the mentally challenged, yet you dare to go into a country that has no respect for life and even has  institutions that torture people like me, as well as countless other people with a variety of different kinds of disablities.  I myself am a Special Olympics athlete, but I want and need for you to know that I am not afraid of you or what you may decide to do with me as a result of sending this message to you.  You do not represent me or my kind.  You represent stupid liberals in DC like Obama, who don't give a crap about people like me.  So you do what you want with me, but I will stand up for what I believe and know to be right, whether you like it or not.

  • Coop, being a "stupid liberal" from Boise Idaho, I was surprised and saddened by your name calling and your lack of accurate information about China and about me.
As a legally blind photographer, I was at many of the events in town and saw a ton of "stupid liberals" supporting the athelets. One of the things I like most about Special Olympics is thier encouagement to get people to respect all people. Perhaps you need more exposure to S.O. not less.

  • Dear Coop, I am unsure where you are coming from or what side of the fence you are on selecting a president. But I was one of the twelve International Global Messengers who got to go to Shangai and Boise for the last two world games. The one thing they both had in common was the kind, loving and helpful people who might not have spoken your language helping you order food, get from place to place and supporting you no matter what disability or country you came from. At the games in Boise Vice President Joe Biden was there to speak to all the athletes and he said that this adminastration supports Special Olympics 100% so I am proud to have it in place. • Hi Coop,
I also think that having the Special Olympics World Games in China was a great chance to raise public awareness in their country. Athletes even had the opportunity to go out to more rural communities before the competitions started, experience a different culture, meet people and share their stories. I think everyone that was a part of the event felt very welcome, and the organizers worked very hard to host the World Games.

  • Dear Coop, my name is Elisa Nadal, I am a Global Family Leader. I went to Shangai, China and my daughter competed in gimnastic . We were all treated with respect and kindness, all the athletes were very happy and recieved al the attention from the chinese people. It was a very nice experience and I really hope you will have the chance to go to China sometime and see what a nice country it is.
