My Partner -- Michael, Lam Hue
- From: Sam_Tam
-
Description:

My Partner -- Michael, Lam Huen Sum (Lecturer of Hong Kong Baptist University)
My name is Sam Tam and I am an athlete of Special Olympics.
Two years ago, I was chosen as an International Global Messenger of Special Olympics and since then, I started to preach, spread and convey the message of Special Olympics. At the Same time, Michael, Lam Huen Sum was appointed by SOI and SOHK as my mentor. He insisted on using the word of "Partner" more than "Mentor", as he thought that we are all coming to learn something in this world.
In my mind, Michael is an outgoing and generous gentleman and he is a good listener and adviser as well. When the obstacles and difficulties came to me, the first one I want to consult and confide is him. He gave me a lot of advices and he did assist me to pave my own way fluently and successfully.
Though two years is not a long time, we were very proud that we have been doing lots of jobs for Special Olympics and the people with intellectual difficulty together. We went to 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai, China and 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Boise Idaho, USA, we contributed a lot in Daniel’s Fund Sport Resource Academy meeting in Ft. Lauderdale, FL USA, we were chosen as MC in a lot of seminars, we were interviewed by different media and we.............. . What for? We showed the people that talent came with everybody naturally and we shouldn't bind ourselves with the word "Mentally Disability". We need to be loved, but we need to show the world that our love came intrinsically and unselfishly.
Though my term as International Global Messenger ended in February, 2009, but we are sure this is not the end but a beginning of another era for us to preach, to spread, to convey the messages of Special Olympics in different identities. Michael and I will enlist more athletes in HK to join the Athlete Leadership Program and let us promote the goodness of Special Olympics in our community and our world.

Young Athletes
- From: Sam_Tam
-
Description:
My dear kids distinguish guests, ladies and gentleman, welcome to Young Athletes Demonstration.
Health doesn’t start from 8, foundation skills like loco-motor, non-loco motor skills and the manipulative skills should be introduced and trained under 8. Better foundation showed the seeds for the further development of physical health of the athletes.
In early 2007, Special Olympics created this pilot program to reach out to children with intellectual disabilities ages 2 to 7. Innovative sports play program for children with intellectual disabilities is designed the children prior to attend the Special Olympics at age eight.
Not only do the sports play program provide the means for the children to play and mingle (it trains the social skills), but also provide a chance for children to solve the problems (that is cognitive skills) like how to throw a ball in a proper way, when to do follow through. Better still, it also trains up the hand-eye coordination, muscular strength, muscular endurance, balance, flexibility, cardiovascular strength of the children. Without these health related physical fitness, hardly can our children get rid of the infant child obesity and diabetes which hit the children badly in this decade.
However, without the element of play, hardly will children from 2-7 do exercise regularly and intrinsically. Therefore we should support the Young Athletes programs.
Thank you very much!

How the wonderful game is
- From: Sam_Tam
-
Description:
I love Special Olympics, I love Idaho, I love Boise and I love all the games, non-sports events, organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and the people in Idaho. They are so “real”, I do feel I am home now! So welcome to Boise Idaho!!
Thanks George, Jimmy and the colleagues. We like all the games and non sports events organized here, we are proud of being here, we are proud of you. Though we cannot travel to all the sites individually, we do feel comfortable, happy, excited and fluent everywhere.
People say life is a stage of mind, not a period of time. That’s true, I forgot how many days that we had been here, what I remember is the athletes who fell in the figure skating competition and stood up without sadness but courage to perform what they enjoyed, is the hugs and smiles from different countries and we don’t have so called “strangers” here, is the true laugh and joy in the sports experiences and the young athletes program, is the loves from you.
This might be my last time standing here to give a speech as International Global Messenger, but I am sure this is not the end but a beginning of another era for me to preach, to spread, to convey the messages of Special Olympics in different identities. Because, the games of Boise taught me LOVE is counted by a period of time, but always new in mind!!!
I love this Game! I love you all! Thank you.

Feeling for SO World Winter Ga

Description of the Opening Ceremony
The setting is very good.
-
putting the globe on the ring is very meaningful because it is just like connecting the countries from different continent together.
-
And ring in china means marriage that means different countries started to concern the equality and to respect the talents of people with intellectual disabilities.
-
here were some free rings. I thought it is open to the world and let the countries which didn’t participate in this game coming to join us and share our happiness.
Different speeches and videos, from the speeches, I conclude the following points which impressed me:
- We are born free and equal, we have our talents. We should be respected and give ways to show our talents just like what the Special Olympics give us. What we need is a platform.
- Life should be full of passion and I did feel that the opening ceremony was filled with sincerity and passion from the athletes, organizers and guests yesterday. It is really impressed me.
- Volunteer is very important, without them games can never run, without them we might loss our way, without them peoples from different countries might communicate more, why? Because they are busying asking where they should go and what they should do.
